Some pictures of the nearly finished installation of Yellow-free zone at the Maashaven metro station in Rotterdam on Dec. 12, 2018.

The installation should be completed by today or tomorrow, and last a minimum on 3 years, but probably 5 years or more, depending on the lamps wear resistance.

Yellow-free zone (2018) – inauguration on Dec. 17 in Rotterdam!

text size2

What is colour? Is it a visual property of objects? A physical product of light? Or a sensation that only exists in our brains? Using cutting-edge technology Lucca created a white light that modifies the colour of yellow objects. Counter-intuitive and radically experimental, part of a larger research about light and colour that defines the artist’s practice, Yellow-free zone turns us temporarily yellow-blind, as if a digital colour filter was applied in real-life.

Yellow-free zone (2018) is a 5-years long light installation for a corridor of the Maashaven metro station in Rotterdam, where a special cold-white light transforms the colours of yellow objects, giving a very counter-intuitive colour-blinding effect. The installation will be unveiled on December 17, 2018.

“Dentelle”, last day of work

Edouardo s

After 25 days of work, I am happy to announce that a permanent stained glass work called “Dentelles de lumière”, made in-situ on 5 large glass sheets in the building of Academia Belgica in Rome, has been completed with success.

This work on glass is the result of a research involving a study of natural light, glass chemistry, drawing and quasi-periodic geometry. Dentelles… plays with the parameters of the natural light environment during the day (diffuse and direct sunlight, color of the environment, etc.) As the conservator-scientist Stefan Michalski described what it does: “Scattering of light by white pigmented translucent films lit variably and dynamically from each side + relative contrast effects”.

The inauguration will happen during the afternoon at Academia Belgica, via Omero 8, Rome, Italy on September 20, 2018.

More info + documents soon.

Microkosmos – a mural and a lighting apparatus installed in the patio of Het Huys is an installation by Adrien lucca. Multicolor and soft-looking during when illuminated by Daylight, the mural becomes bicolored and very saturated at night, when the artificial Special Warm-White light illuminates it. This light, an invention of the artist, appears first familiar but acts like a color-correction filter in real life. Indeed, this light increases the saturation of most colors while it causes some yellows, greens and violets to vanish into reds, blues or grays.

These two possible states of the installation and all the grades in-between are a symbol of the diversity of Het Huys public and activities. At night, Microkosmos transforms for example the color of blond beer into the color of rosé wine, like in a collective, pleasing and surprising hallucinogenic experiment.
